CLUB NEWSLETTER

We would like to welcome all new members to the Launceston Triathlon Club.

Pool Party

Our club’s afternoon “Pool party” On the 19th November was a great way to have some fun, meet and chat with others. Michael Gibbons and Damien Anthony took out the biggest bombs. Longest distance under water was a tie between Michael Gibbons and Rosie Jackson. The dog paddle relay with reindeer antlers was by far the most fun, and Sarah’s birthday cake just topped off the afternoon. We look forward to the next club session.

Youth off to Race

Three of our youth members Aurora De Boer, Jackson Carroll and Ruby Statton are off to Runaway Bay in December, we wish them all the best.

New Club Kit

Half of our new club kit orders have come and we are eagerly awaiting the rest which are due to arrive 1st week in December.

What’s coming up

This year we are focusing our club fundraising on one big raffle –  some great prizes are on offer. Tickets will be available on line and at races.

The raffle will run for the season and be drawn at our last race of the season. Funds raised will be used to purchase a new finishing arch so we won’t have to battle with the wooden one) and equipment (walkie talkies for our volunteers) and further training opportunities. We thank the many people and businesses who have donated prizes.

Races

Beauty Point Marc in Time Teams Relay on 26th November, regrettably was postponed due to unexpected construction and safety concerns at the venue. The committee will look at running this later in the season either at Beauty Point or an alternative venue.

PacKings Bridport Triathlon – Sunday 7th January 2024 We have a new race sponsor so big thankyou and welcome to the “Packings Bridport Triathlon” and Race 2 of the State Series Championship for 2024. This is set to be a cracker event going back to its traditional format of being a Sprint distance. It will also offer super sprint and have our wonderful Tri stars. We’re keen to see a record number of teams at this years event whether that’s business, family, friends or other sporting and community clubs. This is our most popular race, its full of history and summer holiday vibes. A great Christmas gift that’s sure to bring heaps of memories and a great way to start 2024.

Safe Sporting Club

LTC is committed to providing a safe sporting club. It’s important to us that everyone knows how we do that, what to expect and how we all have a role in making it happen.

Launceston Triathlon Club:

  • Follows the Sport Integrity Australia Framework.
  • Has a designated member protection officer – Sarah Springer 0417 528 120 – who we encourage you to contact to ask any questions, seek clarity or express any concerns.
  • Ensures everyone on the committee is required to have a working with children permit.
  • Expects all coaches to follow codes of conduct and receive training specifically in relation to working with children.
  • Is required to ask for specific permission in relation to videoing/photos/social media for all our events, clinics, registration processes.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians, not directly with children.
  • Activities (including events and training) and supervision of children and young people is based on assessed risk, activity requirements (eg open road & water activity ratio is higher) but generally minimum of 1:6.

You can also make a complaint or report directly to Sports Integrity Australia  Protecting Sport Together | Sport Integrity Australia

The club recently completed a self-audit and we have identified the need for clearer communication on how we provide a safe sporting club, our complaints process and also ensuring members, especially parents of children, know how we will communicate with them. We are constantly looking for ways to strengthen our efforts to be a safe sporting club.

Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for the New Year to you and your families.
